Politics would be a helluva good business if it weren't for the goddamned people.

- Richard M. Nixon

Huh? Major Victory?

The Republicans seem to feel as if they were stomped by the Democrats, yet the (D)s have only the slightest control over congress. The Democratic party pulled out a squeaker when they should have pounced. Take into account they won with Democrats running as conservatives, it should be good for Republicans, though it could spell their end.

People tend to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal, wanting to minimize the influence of big government in their lives. When push comes to shove, they do not care which party gives them what they want or what they call themselves, that is how they vote. Democrats run as conservative while Republicans govern as liberals, who do you expect to win?

It was the kind of game where you knew you were going to lose, but in defeat realize the weakness of your opponent--though, as is often the case, the (R)epublicans' opponents are Republicans.
