No Secrets!

In order for a citizenry to make informed decisions in choosing its leadership, information is required. The more transparency and disclosure a government provides, the more the citizenry is in control. A press of the people, for the people is a natural adversary to a government and secrets, but when the press has been compromised, the people are left to fight on two fronts, against their secret government and the press that gives comfort to the powerful few and frightens the masses.

It must be said, that when reporters suggest criminalization of reporting on illegal activities of government, you can rest assured as a government your secrets will be well kept, and your citizens appropriately uninformed and frightened. None of this describes a free and open society.
